The Sources of Courage: War Time Sermons (Joseph H. Lookstein) PDF
The first five sermons in this collection were preached over the radio on the program called "The Message of Israel". They were preached on five consecutive Saturday nights during the month of January, 1942. It was one month after Pearl Harbor, that treacherous and criminal incident which plunged our country into war. I, therefore, saw fit to use my preaching assignments as an opportunity to contribute to the morale of my countrymen.
While the "Message of Israel" is a program sponsored by the Jewish community, the listening audience is composed of men and women of many faiths and nationalities. The sermons were prepared with that in mind. They are woven, naturally, around Jewish textual material—-Bible, Talmud, Jewish Folk-lore—but they have been made to reflect experiences and attitudes that are common to all people, and they contain, it is hoped, guidance and instruction for all elements in the American population.
