Hebrew Alphabets: 400B.C.E. to our Days (Reuben Leaf)
The art of calligraphy has been greatly admired throughout history, both by those proficient in scribal skills, as well as by those to whom it has aesthetic and cultural appeal. Until now, however, very little has been competently produced on this subject. "Hebrew Alphabets" is a compilation of plates of the most prominent forms of Hebrew lettering from ancient times to the present. In this collection, Reuben Leaf has afforded the general public a glimpse into the development of the Hebrew alphabet in its broadest scope. The author, himself a graphic artist, presents the results of extensive research into Jewish sciptual culture. Historically, the Hebrew alphabet has undergone many physical changes, as can readily be observed by comparing the various plates in this book.
